Join us at Penny Post the first weekend of January to celebrate the new year by making 2026 Goal Punch Cards. We will have all the materials you need to create your own personalized punch card.

But what is a goal punch card? It’s a fun take on a New Year’s Resolution, where you set a series of mini goals and a reward. Just like your loyalty card at a favorite coffee shop, you punch your card each time you accomplish your mini goal. When your card is full, you get your reward.

We first heard about these DIY cards from a wonderful customer, and wanted to help people create their own. While traditional New Year’s Resolutions can feel high-pressure, or have an “all or nothing” approach, these mini cards break a goal down into a series of steps. Finish as fast or as slow as suits you. Do you want to race towards your reward? Or take a slower, steadier approach. Either way is fine - it’s your card!

And while you could create a task list on your phone, we love the creative, analogue experience of making a physical card. There’s something soothing about taking a little moment of time to write, doodle, or color. You don’t need to be an accomplished artist- just put pencil, pen, or marker to paper. It can be as elaborate or as simple as you like.

Finished? Carry it with you as a tangible reminder of what you want to accomplish this year. Have fun punching or stamping as you reach your mini milestones, and celebrate with the reward at the end. We’ll be cheering you on!

Not able to join us? Here’s how you can create your own:

  1. Cut a piece of watercolor or sketch paper down to your desired size.

  2. Gather your writing and drawing materials. We used the Sakura Micron pens for our words and outlines, and the Zebra Click-Art markers and the Sakura Gelly Roll pens to add a pop of color.

  3. Use rulers or stencils as needed to help design your card.

  4. Write your goal and your reward on the card. Decide how many “mini goals” you want to accomplish before your reward. We recommend 6-12. Draw a shape or fun picture for each step. Color as desired.

  5. Carry the card with you, and punch or stamp it as you achieve each mini goal. When finished, treat yourself to the reward.

  6. Need some ideas? Here are some of our favorites:

    1. Journal everyday

    2. Send card or letters to friends

    3. Tackle your TBR pile on your bookshelf

    4. Set an exercise, physical activity, or mediation target

    5. Finish a set number of projects

Remember, these cards are supposed to be a source of fun and accomplishment. Don’t stress if you finish slow or even at all. All progress is worth celebrating.
