After a wildly successful Spring2ACTion (Penny Post landed second on the leader board, thank you SO much!), we are picking back up with our Our Good. Works. Wednesday efforts. One of our team members, Jenny, volunteers at The Lee-Fendall House in Alexandria and asked that we direct our dollars there in celebration of National Preservation Month. We love this idea!
The Lee-Fendall House is a fixture in Alexandria's history and served as a family home to six families over three centuries from 1785 to 1969. Today the museum tells stories not only of the house’s owners but also of the enslaved and free people of African descent who lived and worked on the property. Not only was it a residence, it also served as a Union Army hospital during the Civil War. The property was saved from development in the early 1970s and has served as a museum since 1974.
Throughout the year, Lee-Fendall sponsors educational programs and seasonal events including summer Trivia Nights, ghost tours, and a Victorian Christmas. Along with special programs, the museum is open for house tours from Wednesdays to Sundays. Schedule your visit with them and make sure to shop on Wednesdays to show your support!
