By Caiti Anderson // I know I boasted about the crispy goodness of fall, and I accept that the journey we experience to get there comes with a little precipitation. And there is something about this cool-er rainy day, even though it’s still a bit humid, that incites that whipping of my head behind me and smirk at summer exiting through the back porch door.
Do you know what excites me about fall and October? Apart from celebrating my parents’ birthdays, football, crunchy leaves and golden hues, it is the perfect balance of ‘cooler weather, I can still do things outside without fear of getting the Zika or ‘humidity exhaustion’ (I bet that’s a thing) - AND it is permission to do none of that and stay inside with a warm cup of cider or ‘a nice calming indoor activity’.
Have you seen some of the new puzzles at Penny Post? Speaking of calming indoor activity. Amidst preparing for the holiday season, ordering all the little doo-dads for your friends, loved ones, and SELF - I noticed the other day a LOVELY new Washington D.C. puzzle at Penny Post - and can’t wait to add it to the collection of other puzzles I have, but haven’t assembled yet. It made me ask myself “What other goodies have missed my eye?”...you’ll have to pop in for the standard 3-7 laps around the store it takes to take it all in.
For those of us (let’s be honest - you, not me) who start our holiday shopping early, and perhaps also support the mantra of “one for you, and one for me” (that is my personal motto), look no further than Penny Post’s upcoming LAMY TEST DRIVE! On October 18, 19, 20 - all day - you’ll be able to come into the shop and test out a specially curated collection of some of LAMY’S coolest pens (see what I did there?). We’ll be taking Special Orders of any of the pens you test, and will bulk up on our in-store LAMY product. The best part about it: all LAMY products will be 20% off that weekend. SCORE! One for you, one for them.
For those of you who read that paragraph and said to yourself “What in the world is a LAMY and why would I want to get in on that deal?” — I want you to picture yourself as Moo Deng, the baby pygmy hippo’s zookeeper, and the LAMY Test Drive as Moo Deng gnawing on your kneecap.
It’s grabbing your attention and telling you exactly what it wants —more attention. Sidebar, did you know that Moo Deng translates to ‘bouncy pork’ in Thai? That’s the most adorable thing I’ve ever heard. Anyway, LAMY is adorable bouncy pork capturing your attention. LAMY is also an almost 95-year-old pen manufacturer who makes some of the most recognizable pens and fountain pens on the market today. They were founded in 1930 by Josef Lamy (who was a former sales rep for Parker Pen, one of the oldest pen companies in the country) and are known for their unmistakable LAMY Safari fountain pen and their classic flagship pen, the LAMY 2000; both must have considerations for your collection.
Still not sure? Our test drive event will have tester pens of unique styles and color ways and nibs you won’t find in-store. Who knows if you’ll find the perfect gift for your loved one or find yourself immersed in a new community? And it is a community; you are welcome to it.
Think of this as your pre-pre holiday invitation. And there’s a lot more to come from our trio of stores this season. Join us at Penny Post October 18, 19, 20, and join us at Red Barn Mercantile and Pippin Toy Co. for other wonderful events to jump start your holiday shopping and community connection!
Until then, write on!
